CROP Hunger Walk

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012

Every fall Church World Service, a global humanitarian agency, brings hunger around the world into focus.  The 2007 walk marked the 60th anniversary of CROP walks and more than 5 million walkers have raised millions of dollars to fight hunger.  CROP means Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty, and Simpson congregants join each year with 185,000 walkers and 2,000,000 supporters in some 2,000 cities and towns to raise awareness and money for local and global needs.  The Sunday afternoon walk, 5K or 10K, is symbolic of the effort impoverished people must make to simply survive as they struggle to become self-sufficient.  “We walk because they walk!”

Pledges can be accepted at any time . Click here to make your pledge on line. This community-wide event helps alleviate hunger locally, nationally and globally . Our local CROP Hunger Walk returns 25% of the funds it raises to local food banks. Your dollars will also bring help and hope to those suffering from natural disasters such as hurricanes in our Gulf States and tsunamis in Asia, war devastation in Darfur and Iraq, and refugee camps in many regions.  CROP Hunger Walks provide about $16 million in the global fight against hunger.  They provide for immediate disaster needs and also sustainable long-term agricultural projects and wells for clean water abroad.
