Feeding the Hungry

Continuing a 12-year tradition, Simpson United Methodist Church supplements Spokane’s Central United Methodist Church and their Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless with our own Sandwich Ministry.   For decades, Central United Methodist Church has served a generous Thanksgiving dinner to anyone who comes through its doors. Often, the guests at the holiday table have not eaten in the days preceding Thanksgiving and face uncertainty about when or where they will eat after Thanksgiving. Simpson’s Thanksgiving Sandwich Ministry provides Spokane’s homeless with a sack lunch that they take with them as they leave Central UMC and return to Spokane’s streets.

Donations of sandwich materials, cookies and fruit are needed, as are helpers to travel to Spokane on Thanksgiving.  We are assembling a group to go to Spokane on Thanksgiving Day to make and distribute sandwiches and stay for the feast!  We will also take gloves, knit hats, winter coats and sleeping bags for distribution by Spokane's Shalom Zone ministry.  Call 332-5212 if you can help.  Drop off donations in the church office.

Back in Pullman, as we celebrate the harvest and give thanks for the bounty, we are reminded that some don't have enough to eat; our own in-house food drive helps stock the shelves at our local food banks.
