Imagine No Malaria
All through August we collected money for Imagine No Malaria including at the
2011 Lentil Festival Street Fair on Friday, August 19 . Through that event and collections of spare change (and bills!) from the congregation, we collected $210 - enough to buy 21 bed nets! Thanks to all who joined in the effort!!
More than 500 million people are infected with malaria and more than one million die from it each year. Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease carried by mosquitoes. In Africa, it is a leading killer of children. But we can do something about it.
$10 buys a bed net that will protect a sleeping child from infection. Long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets can keep a family safe as long as four years.
Simpson members work to raise awareness and money for this simple and low-cost solution to this deadly disease. Imagine No Malaria is sponsored by the United Methodist Church, the World Health Organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and others. Learn more at http://www.ImagineNoMalaria.org/
